The city of Salem is atempting to revitalize the Lafayette St. area, which has historically been more run-down than the rest of the city, by rebranding it as LOLA or Lower Lafayette. New businesses have also opened along Lafayette St. including a theater space, and a women's clothing store.

Salem: A piece of debris lies scattered around the former site of the Salem Suede factory on Wednesday. The Conservation Commission is fining the plant owner $200 a day for failing to clean up the debris from the demolition of the factory, which is located on the North River canal.
